Helping to act

World moves by those who act, regardless of the nature or the consequences of the action. The solidarity program is often criticized by ignoring the root cause of poverty but it should be reminded that there were people who designed, believed, acted, lobbied and eventually made it reach the entire Central and South America. Hitler and Kim Jong Il are the embodiment of evil but they must have believed what they did, acted and therefore were able to enforce their rules producing millions of victims. On the other hand, Abraham who figured out that there is one God by his own reasoning, searched for God, found Him, moved, preached and lived by his belief and became the father of three major religions, comprising 55% of world population (4 billion).

One of the advantages of savings and investment groups is that it leads people to act. It stimulates people’s thinking and visualizing and putting them into conscious action. For the action to be genuine and lasting, however, it should be based on deep conviction of those who perform. The role of development agency can be found here: giving small incentive that reinforce the mindset leading to action: it can be good examples of other communities, networking with other savings groups or tips on business. Ultimately all have potential to grow and they will grow on their own but a little bit of stimulation will help the process speed up. 

When the country is filled with proactive people trained by savings and investment groups, we may witness the change in culture.
